How to photograph proof of delivery (and why it matters)

A good delivery photo protects you and releases your payment. Here is exactly what to capture.

Proof of delivery photography is the last step that releases your escrow payment. Done well, it also protects you if a sender later claims the item was not delivered.

What to photograph. The package in the recipient's hands or placed at the delivery address. The recipient should ideally be visible (with their consent). The package should be clearly identifiable, with visible labelling, distinctive packaging.

Where possible, include environmental context. A shot of the package at the door of the recipient's building, with the building number or street sign visible, is significantly more convincing than a photo of a package on a neutral surface.

Photograph before and after. The condition photo at handoff shows the package was sealed when you received it. The delivery photo shows it arrived at the right place. Together, they close the loop on your responsibility.

Send the photo through the app. Upload your delivery confirmation photo in the Sendways app as part of the delivery confirmation process. Do not just take the photo for yourself; the sender needs to see it.

Get recipient acknowledgement. If the recipient is present, ask them to send a quick confirmation through the Sendways app. Many disputes are instantly resolved by this one step.

What if the recipient is not available. If you have agreed on a safe drop-off point (a neighbour, a building concierge, a locker), photograph the package in that location with a note explaining where it was left. Message the sender and recipient immediately.

A 30-second photo process at drop-off saves hours of dispute resolution later.
