The safest places to meet for a package handoff

Where you meet matters as much as how. These locations combine convenience with safety for both parties.

The physical handoff is the moment when peer delivery is most personal. Choosing the right meeting point reduces risk for both sender and traveler.

Best options: transport hubs. Airport departure halls (before security), train station concourses, and major bus terminals are ideal. They are public, well-lit, have security presence, and are natural meeting points for travelers.

Second tier: major commercial spaces. Large shopping mall entrances, hotel lobbies, and major chain coffee shops in central areas. These provide public visibility and a degree of security presence.

Third tier: well-known public spaces. Town squares, park entrances, and busy high streets. Adequate for daytime handoffs, less suitable at night.

What to avoid. Private residences for first-time interactions. Empty car parks at any time. Quiet side streets. Any location the other party insists on for unexplained reasons.

For senders: the airport option is best. If your traveler is flying, meeting them at the airport departure area accomplishes two things: the handoff happens naturally in a secure environment, and you can see the traveler heading through security, confirmation the package is on its way.

Night handoffs. If travel schedules require a night meeting, use hotel lobbies or 24-hour venues. Never meet in an empty public space after dark.

Trust your instincts. If the proposed meeting point feels uncomfortable, suggest an alternative. A reasonable person will agree.
