Why we built Sendways & Co

Sendways was not born from a business strategy document. It was born from a frustration that everyone in our founding team had experienced personally.

We are a team with roots across West Africa, Eastern Europe, and the diaspora communities of Western Europe. Between us, we have sent dozens of packages home, received dozens more, and watched family members overpay for courier services or trust informal networks that sometimes let them down.

The informal peer delivery system (asking "can you take this for me when you go?") works. It has worked for generations. But it works only if you know the right person, and it leaves both parties exposed when something goes wrong.

Couriers are the official alternative. They are reliable, traceable, and expensive. For a low-income family sending GBP 50 worth of clothes to Lagos, paying GBP 120 in shipping is not just inconvenient; it is economically absurd.

We built Sendways to create a third option. Not a new courier network (that would require warehouses, vans, and enormous capital. and enormous capital), but infrastructure for the system that already exists: people who travel, carrying things for people who cannot.

The infrastructure a peer delivery market needs is not trucks. It is trust. Identity verification. Escrow payment. Dispute resolution. A reputation system that makes strangers feel like known contacts.

Sendways provides that infrastructure. The travelers and senders are already there. They were always there. We built the pipes that let the system work safely at scale.
