The sender checklist: 10 things to do before every handoff

Run through this list before you hand your package to a traveler and you will avoid 90% of common problems.

A short checklist run before handoff catches almost every avoidable issue. Print it, screenshot it, or memorise the ten items.

1. Weigh the package. Use a kitchen or postal scale. The declared weight must match the actual weight within 100 g.

2. Check the packaging is sealed and intact. No open flaps, no torn tape, no leaking contents.

3. Confirm the item description matches what is inside. What you told the traveler when booking must match what is in the box.

4. Write the recipient contact details on a card inside the package. Name, local phone number, and any delivery notes.

5. Have payment ready. Confirm the escrow payment has been made in the app before the handoff. Travelers are not required to carry a package until payment is secured.

6. Bring ID. Some travelers will ask to verify your identity, especially on high-value packages.

7. Have the Sendways app open. You will need to confirm the handoff in the app to start the delivery clock.

8. Plan for ten minutes of handoff time. Do not rush. Let the traveler weigh the package themselves, take photos, and ask any questions.

9. Confirm drop-off instructions with the recipient. Make sure whoever is receiving the package at the other end knows when to expect the traveler.

10. Exchange phone numbers for the journey. Even with in app chat, a direct number is useful if data coverage is lost mid-trip.

These ten steps take about ten minutes. They protect your item, your money, and the traveler's reputation.
